WHAT
Undergraduate Student Housing
This project was completed as an exploratory deep-dive into the concept of incorporating modular design, Designing for Deconstruction, and Cradle to Cradle design principles into a complex structure. The program that this structure was designed around was that of much needed undergraduate student housing in the context of Purdue's future Innovation District Update Plan.
This building utilizes a steel exoskeleton to support an array of volumetric, and non-volumetric building modules that can be reused once this building reaches the end of its life-cycle, rather than being demolished and broken into non-reusable pieces and put in the landfill. Purdue was selected as my site because there's constant changes in their campus plan due to a rapidly expanding student population, which results in a lot of construction and demolition. This building looks to offset some of the carbon impact that these processes have by offering an alternative to the traditional demolition and construction processes.
