Mass. Ave Midrise

This project strives to provide housing for the diverse community of the downtown Indianapolis area, while being environmentally conscious, efficient, as well as aesthetically unique. This project was also designed to stand out from the surrounding buildings to serve as a beacon for not only its residents, but the general public as well. To achieve these goals, this project employs many different strategies. In an effort to be more environmentally conscious, gaps were created at the top and bottom of the building that are oriented in a way that will allow warm summer breezes through, while blocking cold winter winds. This building also utilizes a cantilever, which was used to create green roof space, as well as provide a variety of room sizes to accomodate for the various needs and budgets of potential tenants. The Southern facade of the building utilizes an array of external shading devices that not only add color and an implied geometry to the design of the building, but they also make the building much more efficient as well. The building is also hyper - insulated. All of these features, as well as other more understated features help this structure with achieving its goals, and creates a space that makes downtown Indianapolis a better place to be.
